Hampi's natural leaf plates are based on a simple but brilliant idea: use naturally shed leaves to create a whole range of natural design tableware. Hampi plates are produced by heat pressing leaves of a special kind of tree grown in tropical countries. The process uses no chemicals or waxes. It's 100% natural.
The technique has been developed in the south of India, where recycling is a natural way of life. But being smart about using natural resources and making the most of what nature has to offer is a good strategy for people anywhere in the world. Why? Because nature doesn't clean up after you. We have to take care of our stuff ourselves. So let's challenge our disposable lifestyle and change it into a light, lean and ingenious way of enjoying life. This is what we mean with a Hampi state of mind: have fun and enjoy yourself, while also keep in mind what you leave behind.
Our natural leaf plates are a perfect example of this philosophy. After use you can throw them away without worry (but make sure it's either in a bin or a compost heap!) They come from nature and return to it.
The plates have been designed by Studio Smeets and have won the Toon van Tuijl Designprijs 2010.
